The Foo ancestry started around 211 AD with Ya . Ya
was the grandson of Qing
, the duke of the country Lu . Originally
Ya's family name was Ji but since he
served as the Minister of the Royal Seal (Fu Xi Ling
), the Emperor of the Qing Dynasty
awarded him the family name of Foo (Fu) . Ya’s 43rd generation descendent, You Chen is the direct ancestor of the Foo Clan of Hainan Island. You Chen is the great grand son of Yan Qing (897-975 AD), the King of Wei during the Five Dynasty (906-960 AD) and also the descendent of Ling , the King of Yi Yang who served as Country Protector Grand General during the Tang dynasty (618-906 AD). You Chen lived in the He Nan province during the North-Sung Dynasty (960-1126 AD). Due to his military achievements, You Chen was awarded the title of Duke of Ten Thousand Household, which meant that ten thousand people paid him their taxes. Three times during the Sung Dynasty, three different generals of the Foo Clan were ordered to go to govern Hainan. Later, the Foo, in essence became the King of the Zhu Ya pearl-cliff, now known as the Hainan Island. You Chen's four sons all had their father's talent. They all followed and inherited his military position. His grandson Ren Huan and the several of his decendants had active and important roles in the military. Other decendants worked as touring inspecting envoys. They settled in Na Yong which later became the Foo Village. |
